BMI Calculation Formula
BMI is calculated by dividing a person's weight by the square of their height. The formula differs slightly depending on the unit system:
Metric Units (kg/m)
Standard scientific formula.
- BMI = Weight (kg) / [Height (m)]2
- Example: 70kg / (1.75m × 1.75m) = 22.86
Imperial Units (lb/in)
Requires a conversion factor of 703.
- BMI = 703 × Weight (lbs) / [Height (in)]2
- Example: 703 × 154lbs / (69" × 69") = 22.7
