What is a Concrete Calculator?
A Concrete Calculator is a construction estimation tool used to determine the total volume of concrete required for a specific project, such as a patio, driveway, or footing. It calculates volume in Cubic Yards or Cubic Meters and estimates the number of pre-mixed cement bags (60lb or 80lb) needed.
At Nexli Calculator, our tool helps you avoid the two biggest risks in concreting: ordering too little (resulting in structural weak points called “cold joints”) or ordering too much (wasting money and creating disposal issues).
Why Use Our Concrete Calculator?
Accurate Volume Logic
Calculates precise cubic yardage based on length, width, and thickness, handling unit conversions automatically.
Bag vs. Truck Estimation
Instantly see if it’s cheaper to buy pre-mixed bags from a hardware store or order a ready-mix truck.
Wastage Buffer
Easily add a safety margin (5-10%) to account for uneven subgrades, spillage, or formwork bowing.

Concrete Formulas & Math
Calculating concrete involves finding the volume of a 3D shape and converting it to industry-standard units. Here is the math we use:
Step 1: Calculate Volume
For a standard rectangular slab.
- Volume (ft³) = Length × Width × Thickness
- Convert to Cubic Yards:
- Cubic Yards = Total Cubic Feet / 27
- *Since 1 yard = 3 feet, 1 cubic yard = 3x3x3 = 27 ft³.
Step 2: Calculate Bags
Based on standard pre-mix yields.
- 80lb Bag: Yields approx 0.60 cubic feet.
- 60lb Bag: Yields approx 0.45 cubic feet.
- Total Bags = (Total ft³ / Bag Yield) × Safety Margin
How to Use Our Concrete Calculator
-
1
Measure Area
Enter the Length and Width of your slab. Enter the Depth (thickness) in inches (e.g., 4 inches for a standard driveway).
-
2
Select Bag Size (Optional)
If you are using pre-mix bags, select whether you are buying 60lb or 80lb bags to get a count.
-
3
Calculate & Order
Click Calculate. Use the “Cubic Yards” figure for truck orders, or the “Total Bags” figure for hardware store runs.
