What is a Fuel Cost Calculator?
A Fuel Cost Calculator (or Gas Money Calculator) is a travel budgeting tool designed to estimate the total expense of fuel required for a specific trip. By analyzing the trip distance, the vehicle’s fuel efficiency (MPG or km/L), and the current price of gas or diesel, it provides a precise dollar amount for the journey.
At Nexli Calculator, our tool is essential for planning road trips, calculating daily commute costs, or splitting gas money fairly among friends. Whether you drive a fuel-efficient hybrid or a heavy-duty truck, this tool helps you avoid budget surprises at the pump.
Why Use Our Fuel Cost Calculator?
Road Trip Budgeting
Know exactly how much cash to set aside for gas before you hit the road, ensuring a stress-free vacation.
Fair Cost Splitting
Carpooling with friends or colleagues? Use the calculator to determine the exact total cost so everyone pays their fair share.
Global Unit Support
Whether you use Miles & Gallons (US/UK) or Kilometers & Liters (Europe/Asia), our tool handles the math seamlessly.

Fuel Calculation Logic
Calculating gas money is a simple two-step process involving division and multiplication. Here are the formulas used:
US/Imperial System
Using Miles and Gallons.
- Fuel Needed = Distance (miles) / MPG
- Total Cost = Fuel Needed × Price per Gallon
- Example: 300 miles / 30 MPG = 10 Gallons.
- 10 Gallons × $3.50 = $35.00
Metric System
Using Kilometers and Liters.
- Fuel Needed = Distance (km) / Efficiency (km/L)
- Total Cost = Fuel Needed × Price per Liter
- *If using L/100km: (Distance / 100) × L/100km rating.
How to Use Our Fuel Cost Calculator
-
1
Enter Trip Distance
Input the total length of your trip. Don’t forget to double it if you are calculating a Round Trip!
-
2
Enter Fuel Efficiency
Input your vehicle’s MPG (Miles Per Gallon) or km/L. You can find this on your dashboard or car manual.
-
3
Enter Gas Price
Input the current price at the pump (per gallon or per liter). Click Calculate to see the estimated cost.
