What is a Brick Calculator?
A Brick Calculator is a construction estimation tool designed to determine the precise number of bricks required to build a wall or structure. By inputting the dimensions of the wall and the specific size of the bricks being used, it calculates the total count, accounting for the space taken up by mortar joints.
At Nexli Calculator, our tool helps homeowners, contractors, and civil engineers plan their projects efficiently. Whether you are building a garden wall, a garage, or a home extension, this tool prevents the common headache of ordering too few or too many materials.
Why Use Our Brick Calculator?
Prevent Material Shortages
Stopping a project to wait for more bricks is costly. Our calculator ensures you order the right amount upfront.
Smart Wastage Calculation
Easily add a percentage (e.g., 5-10%) to account for broken bricks and cuts during construction.
Accurate Mortar Logic
Unlike basic math, our tool subtracts the volume of the mortar, ensuring the brick count isn’t overestimated.

Construction Formulas & Logic
Estimating masonry requires calculating surface areas. Here is the mathematical logic we use to provide your result:
Step 1: Areas
Calculate the surface area of the wall and a single brick.
- Wall Area = Length × Height
- Brick Area = (Length + Mortar) × (Height + Mortar)
- *Note: Mortar thickness is added to the brick size.
Step 2: Total Quantity
Determine the count and add safety margin.
- Base Count = Wall Area / Brick Area
- Total = Base Count × (1 + Wastage %)
- Example: 5% Wastage = Multiply by 1.05
How to Use Our Brick Calculator
-
1
Enter Wall Dimensions
Input the total Length and Height of the wall you intend to build (in meters or feet).
-
2
Select Brick Size
Choose a standard brick size or enter custom dimensions. Don’t forget to define the mortar joint thickness (usually 10mm).
-
3
Calculate with Wastage
Select a wastage percentage (we recommend 5-10%) and click Calculate to get your ordering number.
